    A superpower is defined as a country that has global influence over others in cultural, technological, military and political spheres. While the United States has been the world’s only superpower since the end o the cold war, escalating political tension between the US and China leads many to wonder If China is angling or this position too.

    One of the biggest reasons that China could be the next superpower is that it embraces globalization. It’s very rare nowadays to examine a newly purchased good without seeing the words “Made in China” written on it. This is partially because China is the world’s top exporting and trading country, having exported $0.7 trillion more worth of goods than the United States in the year 2016. China is also making great strides to make global connections, most recent of which is the China-Arica Summit where the populous nation gave away goodies to African countries including Kenya.

    It’s not just exports that set China apart; China boasts a market of which the West wants a piece. Its economic growth has surpassed every other country’s at an average of 10% per year ; the sheer size of its population (over one billion people), combined with a growing middle class, has given the country unrivaled buying power .
