“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.” Franklin D. Roosevelt the 32nd President of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945.

During the closing of shops of Jubilee affiliate parties in 2016, everybody expected that all parties within Mt. Kenya region will do so. It came as a shocker to many that the party led president Uhuru’s successor and political mentor, former President H.E. Mwai Kibaki did not fold up. Many people did not decipher the deep meaning from the act by the old intellect who speaks less and acts more. The party did not attract lucrative politicians thus it managed to deliver none to the 12th Parliament. To the ordinary mind its demise was pronounced, though to the political whiz kids it was the secret card that would change the 2022 game of power completely.
Throughout the 2017 general elections nominations and thereafter, there have been accusations and counter accusations of malpractices by Jubilee leadership led by the overseer of the 2017 Jubilee party nomination process deputy president Ruto. Many of those who lost blamed the deputy party leader of a scheme to throw out those he perceived as threat to his 2022 bid out of the party. This disgruntled bunch came fire blazing and openly condemned him and vowed to do anything within their means to ensure, he the deputy president shall not rise beyond his current position. They went ahead and formed the former mountain parliamentarian group and even met former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Radisson Blu hotel in Nairobi on June 28, 2018. In this meeting they resolve to ensure that president Uhuru Kenyatta is not distracted from delivering the big four agenda to Kenyans by those who have been politicizing everything including the fight against corruption. “We want the president to be merciless on the fight against corruption and to stay the course with Raila Odinga,” said Mr Kabando.

Among the recognizable names believed to be behind the party rejuvenation are; Hoteliers and sons of DP Party founding partner former Kieni Member of Parliament David Munene Kairu, Party chairman Esau Kioni, Deputy party secretary general Wambugu Nyamu, former principle secretary for Transport 37 years old Irungu Nyakera who is the party’s deputy leader, Nyakera deputises former cabinet minister Joseph Munyao. The party has presence in over 36 counties thus qualifying it to be a national party.
With the entire aforementioned human, intellectual and financial capital DP Party shall rival Jubilee in 2022 elections in the region. To many politicians it will be the primary party of choice or the first option for any worthwhile politician on any post from member of county assembly, Member of Parliament, gubernatorial to the presidential seat. The party has decided to have Irungu Nyakera who is barely 37 years as the deputy party leader to lure the youths who are projected to form 73 percent of voters in 2022. Nyakera hails from Murangá County which might have informed the party the party’s decision since both Kiambu and Nyeri has tasted the highest seat and therefore it is Murangás time to achieve what former prolific leader Kenneth Matiba craved for. Nyakera is being mentored under able leadership of veteran politician Joseph Munyao.

There have been undertones that Democratic Party, Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and ODM party led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is also leader of NASA coalition as well as AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, are working out on possible post election pact. If these undertones materialize the Jubilee Party and its most probable candidate who happens to be deputy president Dr. Ruto shall have a run for their money not only in the region but across the country.
