  • A new “global compact” is needed on refugees and migrants to address the increasingly negative way they are treated, a top UN expert said Monday.

Karen Koning AbuZayd, Special Adviser for the UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants, made the comments ahead of a UN summit on the issue in September.

In an appeal for Member States to come up with solutions for all people who leave their homes willingly or unwillingly, Ms AbuZayd said that amid the current migration crisis in Europe, older refugee situations risked being forgotten.
