The World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul provides a “unique opportunity” to launch a “ground-breaking” new education fund for children caught up in crises.
That’s the view of Atif Rafique, of the UN Children’s Fund, UNICEF, who said the Education Cannot Wait initiative would raise new funds for millions of children affected by conflicts or natural disasters.
The education crisis fund, proposed by the UK-based Overseas Development Institute, is being backed by UNICEF.
The fund to be launched at the two-day summit in Istanbul, which begins on May 23, would improve the “efficiency and effectiveness” of delivering education, and prevent the kind of delays seen in recent years during the Syria conflict, added Mr Rafique.
